The strengthening of local journalism and community communication initiatives is an important, crucial step towards the development of communities and the defense of democracy.
With that in mind, the Comuá Network released the publication Community communication and philanthropy: paths to strengthen the communication for rights within the context of civil society in Brazil.
Authored by Diego Cotta and Renata Saavedra, and the result of a dialogue with the Comuá Network, the publication proposes to examine the scenario of support for this topic, especially the relationship between these types of media and community philanthropy in Brazil, to understand how the two ecosystems can expand their partnerships and leverage one another.
It is directed mainly to funders, practitioners of community philanthropy and socio-environmental justice who are not yet working directly with community communications, but recognize its importance and are open to conceiving ways to work on this agenda.
The intention of the Comuá Network is that these reflections inspire new actions, practices and alliances that help strengthen community-based communication, which is democratic and liberating.
The publication was released during a webinar held with the participation of Graciela Hopstein (executive director of the Comuá Network), Rodrigo Savazoni (associate director of Instituto Procomum), Tony Marlon (educator and popular communicator and columnist for UOL), Rodrigo Montaldi (program manager at Casa Socioenvironmental Fund), Mônica Nóbrega (communication coordinator at Brazil Human Rights Fund), and authors Diego Cotta and Renata Saavedra, who are also researchers and journalists.
